Do we really think a Black man who has spent many years working with the underclass and minorities in poor neighborhoods is an elitists? How does being multi-millionaires (over $100 million each) make Hillary and McCain more down to earth than Obama, who isn’t a millionaire?
John McCain, the Republican candidate for President, has promised to continue the war in Iraq with the possibility of going into Iran, and openly admits he knows little about what makes for an effective economy. If you believe in the war or are rich or a war profiteer, then McCain is a good choice. If not, you’re a fool to vote for this man. To believe the lot of Americans will improve if this man and his Republican cohorts have 4 more years to lead this country means you like just what we have now – a recession possibly leading to a depression.
Hillary Clinton, a Democratic nominee also looking to be President, and her husband Bill have made $109 million since they left the White House. She may be more down to earth than John McCain, but to many people Hillary is the epitome of elitist with her icy attitude and secretiveness. Both, she and McCain have been saying Obama’s an elitist, however when you look at the 3 of them, she and McCain come closer to that portrayal than Obama ever will. Obama looks and acts approachable, but would you say the same about McCain (who can be crotchity) or Hillary (who can give the cold stare)?
The people offended by Barack’s comments at a fund raiser in San Francisco about being bitter, due to trade agreements, losing jobs, and illegal immigration, clinging to their religion and guns are the folks who have been looking for an excuse to find fault with the Black man. The ignorance of not following the issues and being easily distracted from what's important could very well be the downfall of the country.
Maybe I’ve been giving this electorate more credit than it deserves. Folks are as easily distracted as babies and some animals. 8 years of making the wrong decisions leading to war and a poor economy, and too many Americans have illustrated time didn’t make them any smarter.
WANT TO KNOW WHAT’S ELITIST? – Hillary and McCain backing the decision to invade Iraq putting us on a journey with no good ending and a failing economy. They both knew better than we did about NAFTA and free-trade, and here we are with lousy paying jobs and a failing economy. Only recently has Hillary changed her tune. John McCain still believes in it. The Bush tax cuts that mainly favor the rich, which McCain wants to continue, is elitist to me. The fact he wants to continue a war even though the public is against that idea is elitist. He and Cheney say, SO WHAT! To know how our economy is hurting and not have any idea of how to make things better, yet he still wants to be President is off the chain elitist!
Hillary’s idea of universal healthcare being manditory is very elitist. It says I’m going to force you to get it whether you like it or not, need it or not, can afford it or not. How dare she demand that people pay for something they may not want. What happened to our ideas of freedom? Any universal healthcare plan that’s laid out for Americans should be totally off the back of employers. Any other plan is blowing smoke, because we’ll be paying more and more each year. Isn’t it interesting that Hillary has been promoting her universal healthcare plan while she has been receiving heavy contributions from the medical industry (insurance, drug, HMO’s, etc. companies that ripped of Americans with their Prescription Drug Plan for the elderly just a few years ago)? Is this what we really want? Forcing this on Americans sounds elitist to me!
All three possible candidates for President agree to allow illegal immigration. All three want to accept the illegal immigrants we have here now to continue the cheap labor for business in some capacity. NOW THIS IS ELITIST. Why? It says that U.S. citizens aren’t valued. We have a failing education system here that President Bush put in placed called NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND. Not only has the program left millions of kids behind, the drop out rate is the highest it’s ever been in modern times.
Topping that, American businesses are passing up U.S. citizens for foreign workers claiming they can’t find qualified applicants for a variety of jobs. The H-1B visas are allowing foreign workers to come in and do middle class jobs Americans do but for $10k-$15k less. They have the nerve to want to bring in foreign workers to do customer service jobs here. Excuse me, but when did we become so illiterate that we can’t do or be trained for customer service jobs? U.S. citizens are being given the short shaft with respect to middle class jobs here and it's due to corporate greed.
Barack Obama has said he will ensure that workers are U.S. citizens and will seek Americans first before bringing in workers from other countries. He says he will enforce those laws on the books against employers who hire illegal immigrants. But he does want to give those illegal immigrants who are here and opportunity to become citizens. DO I AGREE WITH THIS? NO! But after listening to all three packages offered for the future of this nation, the best chance we have is with Obama! McCain and Hillary are the elitists bought and paid for by lobbyists.
QUESTION EVERYTHING! THAT'S WHERE THE TRUTH RESIDES.
While McCain can talk about Obama being an elitist and talk about Rev.
Wright, we are currently going through a banking scandal similar to the
Savings & Loan Scandal in the late '80's. McCain was connected with the
Keating Five which cost the American people 3.4 billion dollars for the
scandal involving the Lincoln Savings and Loan. Let Mr. Straight Talk
explain that relationship and ask for forgiveness. Now THAT'S elitist to
me!
Capt., there has been a lot of "poor choice of words" from the candidates
in this Presidential election but like Obama himself says "words matter".
The Clinton and McCain campaigns erred in using the word "elitist" to
describe what Obama said behind closed doors to the wealthy liberal
Democrats in the San Francisco fundraiser. Those words were not the words
of an "elitist" but the words of a Marxist leaning socialist ("religion is
the opiate of the people", Karl Marx) Had Obama's statement been
characterized as "Marxist" then, in my opinion, that would have been more
accurate. (Of course then Obama would defend himself against that
characterization because he isn't a Marxist leaning socialist, right?)
Mo, you demonize Obama as though he isn't like you or me. Marxism,
communism, fascism, etc. are not what we have to worry about because the
distortion of Capitalism right in America is bringing down a once mighty
nation. Obama believes more in the basics of our Constitution than either
Clinton or McCain and has a can do Spirit that engages people to act.
That's the promise of his candidacy - that the people will have a choice.
