Yeah, that’s me, celebrating Birthday number 15, on the 29. Most times I celebrate whatever day comes after the 28 of February. This birthday is even more special, to me, considering the day comes once every four years and it’s the Year Of The Rat according to the Chinese calendar, and yours truly is a Rat. One would think that this year is lining up fairly well for me. No complaints!
Mom didn’t want me born on Leap Year saying she wanted her baby to have a birthday every year. It never mattered to me. That’s not true, either. I thought it was cool to be a little different from everyone else. To this day, I’ve never met another Leap Year Baby, yet have met a number of people who know of one other than me.
Family and friends have made more out of my birthday on Leap Year when it happens, which has made the birthdays special for me. Whether it’s Leap Year or not, I usually celebrate for a full week. Which was right on time for my brother’s birthday on March 7.
Moodiness, impatience, and irresponsibility were part of my personality. My parents established discipline and responsibility in my brother and me. The moodiness, impatience and discovering my passions were things I had to discover on my own.
We often speak of the things our parents didn’t do for us when we were kids. But it’s our job as adults to give ourselves everything we need that we believe our parents didn’t give us.
I’m thankful for being aware of my passions at an early age. Those passions have been my allies in life, bringing me so much joy and a livelihood that was unexpected. But more than anything, following my passions has given my life direction and purpose without having to seek it.
The knowledge of understanding and realizing who and what you are, simplifies life. Patience, responsibility, and the willingness to observe yourself in the moment are keys to getting know yourself and resetting your direction. Keeping daily journals of your life and nightly dreams is extremely informative.
I enjoyed the process so much, observation (of self and others) has become a passion leading to my involvement as a life coach. Taking the journey of self discovery will introduce you to what makes you function the way you do. You will find there are places within you, you can visit to get all the information you need to do whatever it is you want to do. Problems of relationships, health, work, love, survival, fulfillment and happiness all have solutions coming from self awareness.
THE SIMPLICITY OF LIFE IS ONLY COMPLICATED BY THE IGNORANCE OF SELF! This doesn’t mean you will never have problems, but the means to solving those challenges comes from the knowledge you have about yourself.
QUESTION EVERYTHING! THAT'S WHERE THE TRUTH RESIDES. USE YOUR PERSONAL POWER.
Happy Birthday, Capt! Being a "leap year baby" explains somewhat the
mystery that you are. I mean this as a compliment, you are out of this
world, Mon! You have a very unique Karma.
You are a gentleman and a scholar, Roosevelt. Thanks!
Happy Belated Birthday Capt!!!I too was born on a leap year, though it was
in October.I think that I was born in the year of the dragon in 1976.I am
not sure what that is supposed to say about me I'll have to check it out.
Happy birthday Capt! I know that my classmate has an uncle born on a leap
year as well. :D I guess I know of two people then..hahaha
Again, I tell you, I honestly believe your mother’s an astounding woman,
resilient and very much grounded. She has raised you well, because your
blog is something that inspires people. It is one thing to make another
person think, but to compel that person to manifest his reaction by writing
and commenting is another skill altogether.
So kudos to you, my friend and I hope you had a great celebration for your
birthday
Thanks much, Angela for the Birthday greeting. As adults, the first bit of
forgiveness we must give is to ourselves and our parents. What goes around
comes around. This way your kids forgive you when they become adults.
