GOOD JUDGMENT IS KEY TO AMERICA'S FUTURE!

posted Thursday, 1 May 2008

Judgment is an important ingredient in any leader, since proper judgment saves you from taking wasteful journeys due to poor judgment. The war in Iraq was one of those judgments that’s costing us dearly in lives and money. Hillary Clinton, John McCain and George Bush are showing their poor judgment once again, this time regarding oil prices. All three appear to favor a federal Tax Holiday on oil for the summer months. Only Barack Obama is seeing this situation clearly.

WHAT IS A TAX HOLIDAY ON OIL? – It’s removing the 18 cents federal tax on the price of oil from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Some how Hillary Clinton and McCain think it’s a great idea with President Bush joining in on it later. Barack Obama says it will save consumers roughly $30 for those months. I say it’s not going to save consumers that much. Why? Because with the dip in price consumers will be filling up SUV’s and other gas guzzlers that will increase the demand from what we currently have to something much higher. That activity will raise the price of oil up 18 cents and more, in a matter of a couple of weeks.

The downside is no savings on the gas. There will be no tax money for roads and bridges. And there will be no move to alternative energies. On top of all of this, once the Tax Holiday is over, that 18 cents will be added to whatever the price is after the Holiday, which will appear to be a great increase at that time. Will we have done ourselves any favors with the Tax Holiday? Hell no! Having the right judgment before events is more important than seeing clearly after the mistake has been made.

Bush went on a rampage yesterday against the Democrats in Congress saying they are the reason for our energy problems. His choosing to go to war, threatening war, and filling up the Strategic Oil Reserve, he assumes did nothing to raise the price of oil. Oil mergers led to 12 major oil companies falling to just 5, decreasing the competition in the industry as well as the refineries.

Our President is still hashing over old ideas to meet our energy needs. He wanted and still wants to drill for oil in Alaska and other regions around the country. What he forgets to tell you is that drilling for our own oil will not make oil cheaper. It will go on line at the global price (currently $118 dollars a barrel). He's made no attempt to finance the move to alternative fuels.  Also mentioned was that we need to use more nuclear energy saying it’s safe and cheap. However, he neglects to tell you the down side of using nuclear fuel, which is how extremely costly it is to dispose of the nuclear waste. Currently, we don’t know what to do with the waste we have with the nuclear plants that already exist. The waste has a life much greater than our own.

In addition, Bush says we have enough coal to run our country for hundreds of years. The problem is we don’t have the technology to use coal cleanly.

Hillary, McCain and Bush erred in judgment regarding Iraq, the New Banking and Bankruptcy Laws and NAFTA. Those three decisions have us in the deepest shit we’ve ever been in. Over 4000 dead, nearly a trillion dollars spent, a tremendous debt to Japan and China, an abused Armed Forces, jobs outsourced by the millions, 20 million illegal immigrants, 5 million additional folks are poor, a shrinking middle class and a housing mortgage scandal that could possibly send this economy into a depression. THIS IS A JOURNEY, U.S. CITIZENS DIDN’T NEED. Obama’s judgment kept him from supporting these actions sending us down this road.

The shortterm solutions we’ve taken to help our citizens have been poorly chosen whether it’s the stimilus checks or the Tax Holiday. Folks, don’t be fooled by Appearances. Judge righteous judgment.

QUESTION EVERYTHING!  THAT'S WHERE THE TRUTH RESIDES.

Capt., when someone sticks their neck out and offers a solution it might take "good judgment" to look at that solution and say, "that won't work". However, having said what won't work, the $64,000 is, what will work? In any problem there will always be "short term" solutions and "long term" solutions, good solutions and bad solutions. The important thing is to come up with solutions and see what works and what doesn't. Really "good judgment", as I see it, is not only seeing what is deficient about a solution someone else offers, but having a solution of your own. What short term solutions does Obama have for anything, other than, "yes we can!"?

Mothanskin, what too many people don't realize is that the solutions offered by Hillary & McCain will make things worse instead of better. Sometimes its smart not to act impulsively than act and end up with what we currently have. Obama is smart enough to know as Senator, he doesn't have the power to do the things we need to do. I'm tired of the cowboy and woman who will try to show she's as tough as any man. Hillary's statement about Iran was reckless and stupid.

Remember, Mo, sometimes it's better to do nothing than to do the wrong thing. Especially when you don't know what you're doing!

Melocrate says: Those mother truckers are considering yucca mountain and nevada to store nuclear waste, neglecting the fact that Nevada is home to thee most earthquakes known to the US.

And most people don't know it, but their "Best solution" for land fills, is usually putting it under your...local park...where your kids play...and they put a few pipes to avoid methane build up and clay on the bottom to stop leachate from contaminating the water.

Truth is, almost everything naturally found on earth, contains some form of fossil fuel, just waiting to be used. Everything from rocks, to the dirt.

Nuclear Energy is thee most dangerous energy source. The most unstable, and the most costly, plus no one wants it.

Theres deep well injection, which will work for a hundred years or so, but once again, one tectonic plate shift and it's all hell on earth.

Mel, that's why storing this waste is just another project that is extremely costly. We can't safely take the waste from one site to move to Nevada.
