75% OF U.S. WANTS OFFSHORE DRILLING ? WE INSIST ON BEING THE SUCKERS CORPORATE AMERICA LOVES!
The economic suffering Americans are enduring through high oil prices and other market maladies is blinding us to how offshore drilling is another hoax on the American people – like George Bush’s economic policies of the last 7and a half years. We need to take up the Cat Steven’s and Labelle’s mantra which is, WE WON’T BE FOOLED, AGAIN! OH, NO!
Just think about it. You’re making record profits from the price of oil right now without a hint of any shortages. When brought before the government, you defend your record profits to the hilt. You have the leases to 68 million acres of land and shore for drilling open to you if you need to drill for more oil, but ask the government to allow you to drill in what you think are prime drilling areas for oil. Why would you, as an oil person, want to put more oil on the market to decrease your profits (by lowering the price of oil) when you have shareholders who are looking to you to maximize such profits? WHAT IS THE MOTIVATION FOR OIL COMPANIES TO GO AGAINST WHAT THEY THINK IS THEIR BEST INTERESTS? IN OTHER WORDS, WHY WOULD THEY WANT TO BRING DOWN THE PRICE OF OIL?
We are an oil producing nation that sells its gas to U.S. citizens at the global price. We don’t get a discount for all the years of giving, to the industry, billions upon billions of tax dollars to assist them in research and development.
What I believe is happening to U.S. citizens in our haste to get a solution to high gas prices, is we’re blindly willing to accept none solutions from the same people who have been ripping us off for years. WHEN DO WE LEARN? Why would anyone, after these 8 years, back an idea put out by a Republican supporting Bush’s domestic and foreign fiscal policies all this time? Again doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. These are the same folks who have been for the rich, corporate America, oil companies, and the military industrial complex. WHEN HAVE THE WORKING AND MIDDLE CLASSES BEEN SERVED BY THESE FOLKS EXCEPT TO TAKE OUR TAX DOLLAR TO MAKE SOMEONE ELSE RICH! As Peter, Paul and Mary sang, WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN? WHEN WILL THEY EVER LEARN?
REASONS NOT TO BUY INTO OFFSHORE DRILLING
- THE DEMAND FOR OIL WILL ONLY GO UP - Emerging nations around the world are showing a thirst for oil with China, India and the rest of the Massive Asian Movement leading the way.
- THE EARLIEST OFFSHORE DRILLING WILL GO ONLINE, FOR OUR USE, WOULD BE 10 YEARS FROM TODAY – So drilling for oil offshore is not a an immediate solution – nor a long term one.
- NOT ENOUGH DRILL SHIPS FOR OFFSHORE DRILLING – The high demand for oil, has also increased the demand for drill ships calling for new ships to be built. The backlog of drill ships is 5 years long adding on to the time before this new oil would come on line. In addition these ships have increased in cost from $100 million to $500 million. Who do you think this cost will be past onto – US!
- PRICES WILL NOT COME DOWN WITH THE NEW SUPPLY OF OIL - Even President Bush, in a recent press conference, said he couldn’t guarantee prices would be lower when this oil finally came on line. Any oil found would come on board at the global price – just like now.
This whole thing is a ploy by the oil companies to keep Americans focused on oil instead of the alternative and renewable fuels we need in the near future. What’s shameful how Republicans in Congress are pushing this as though it’s our only hope. It’s important not to fall for the same fear tactics they’ve applied over the last 8 years.
